Philosophy

"My mission is to make professional skincare accessible, available and affordable for all women, especially women of colour."

My aim is to provide you with excellent quality clinical skin care advice and treatment at all times. I believe passionately in education and enabling you to make the best long term decisions for your skin.

In any treatment the overall health of your skin is my number one priority so treatments are geared towards revitalising and restoring your skin back to fitness in the safest possible way.

Where I feel you would benefit from seeing another professional for a different type of treatment, I will refer you on to my extensive tried and trusted network of skin specialists and Dermatologists.  As professionals it is important that we are aware of our limitations. I support the #SafetyinBeauty campaign.

Dija Ayodele

I am a fully qualified Aesthetician with over a ten years experience in the beauty industry covering everything from nails to advanced skincare. I am also a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology.

In addition to following my passions in skincare, I am also the founder of 3107 London Artisan Skincare – a holistic aromatherapy based skincare line designed to soothe your skin and your soul.

I founded the Black Skin Directory, which connects black women and other women of colour to dermatologists and advanced skincare clinics with experience in managing darker skin tones.

I occasionally write for the beauty and trade press contributing my skincare knowledge and expertise to the wider community. Providing access, availability and affordable skincare solutions to all women, especially to women of colour, is of paramount importance to me.

My Approach to Skin Health Management

What are my guiding principles?

I believe in using evidence based treatment products and protocols with a proven track record, clinical trials and excellent support systems.

The skin serves as a protective barrier for our internal muscles and organs, guarding them from external aggressors and pathogens that create disease and imbalance. For the skin to do this job effectively, it must be healthy, strong and resilient.

Healthy skin is one that is hydrated and balanced throughout the Dermis and Epidermis. This is achieved by protecting the delicate physical and chemical barrier function that makes skin such a complex organ. Therefore the aim of every treatment is to achieve this optimal state as well as improve clarity, smooth textural irregularities and improve facial contours by stimulating collagen and elastin fibres deep within your skin.

How is the health of your skin protected?

Even before a treatment, we go through an in-depth skin and lifestyle consultation to assess your suitability for treatment. This assessment involves a comprehensive skin fitness analysis including taking relevant imagery which is updated at each appointment.

The Foundations of Skin Health

Diet

The adage is true – you are what you eat.  A rainbow diet of vegetables and fruits will provide your skin with the nutrients and vitamins it needs to thrive. Proteins from plant and animal based sources will also feed your skin.  Your skin also needs a natural supply of healthy fats to keep it lubricated and supple. Foods with high Omega 3-6-9 content - salmon, sardines, mackerel, olives and avocado - are best. Natural food based sugars are fine, however, excessive sugar consumption is damaging to your skin and leads to premature ageing.

Lifestyle

Leading a low/no stress lifestyle also wonders for your skin, mental health and overall well being. In stressful situations, the stress hormone Cortisol is elevated to power us through. However, prolonged exposure to Cortisol leads to damaging inflammation in the skin and body. Whilst I understand that in modern times life is busy and challenging, I am a big advocate for building channels of self care into our lives.

Negativity - in people and behaviours - also has a detrimental effect on mental health and skin.

Professional Skincare

Whether fortnightly or monthly, maintaining your regular professional appointments is vital to your skin health. This allows me to monitor the progress of your treatments, tweak and amend to ensure your treatment aims are met and all round skin health fitness is achieved.

Professional treatments turbo charge your skin with potent ingredients and actives that work in unison to stimulate and renew, right through to the dermal layers.

Homecare Products

The products you use at home are vital to a successful treatment outcome.  With the plethora of brands available and with quick  access to information via the internet and social media, it easy to inadvertently select the wrong products. Sadly, this can lead to disruption of the protective skin barrier whilst exacerbating any current and underlying skin complaints. I enjoy selecting the best products for you using my professional expertise and extensive knowledge.

To create cost effective solutions and ensure that you have all the relevant products at home, I bundle treatments and vital starter products into a single package. The package cannot be separated. In the interests of transparency, I am unable to provide treatment if you do not wish to use the recommended products for any reason.
